Cause for the Cure

“We all know "it" is out there, "it" is on the news, on the radio and in the papers – but some how you think "it" is not going to affect you – and then it does… Having lost a very close family friend earlier this year hit home and hit hard. To see her struggle was hard, but to see her courage was amazing! While she has left this world and left the disease and her pain behind and is in a much better place, she also left behind a piece of herself in so many hearts. To honor her and her family and all of the other women and men along with their families who have lost their battles with “it” and to applaud the survivors and their families who have beat “it” – I felt I needed to do something. The two most important things in the fight against “it” – breast cancer, is early detection and diagnosis and money to support programs and research. So, I decided very quickly to use my company as a vehicle to support the cause. As a business that sells women’s accessories through home “purse parties”, corporate events, fundraisers and a website I am able to help spread the word and to help raise money. I'm greatful to be able to help with this cause in honor of my friend and who knows, maybe even get someone to the doctor in time to be a survivor!”

"PROMISE" BANGLE

Based on current information more than 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and over 40,000 will die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, approximately 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 400 will die. If detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95%. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram.

In the ongoing fight for early detection and early diagnosis A Sow's Ear is pleased and honored to be a participant in the fight to eardicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. Continuing April1, 2005 and running indefinitely A Sow's Ear will carry on wiht its donations in honor of Opal Houck. The money donated will be given to the South Placer Breast Cancer Endowment. The endowment provides another opportuinty to support breast health at the local level. The members have committed to raising 1.5 million during a five-year campaign to fund the Breast Cander Endowed Chair at the UC Davis Cancer Center.

Each month we will donate1 1/2% of our proceeds to the endowment and in October we will give 3% of our proceeds in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Additionally - $1 dollar of every breast cancer awareness jewelry item sold will be also be donated.

We  are offering different breast cancer awareness jewelry for sale through our website.
